As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I studied psychology in my undergraduate degree. I think the field of psychology has made many major contributions to society. It can be traced back to ancient civilizations, but experimental psychology didn't begin to develop until the 19th century. The field covers a wide range of studies from social, behavioral, to cognitive science.
When I was studying I thought that I would pursue a career as a therapist, but as I progressed through my programme became interested in mental illnesses such as autism. However, when I graduated I found it difficult to find a job in my career, and later I discovered language teaching. Nevertheless, I believe that my undergraduate degree has helped me with many aspects of language teaching and learning.
I believe that the field of psychology contributes to society in a multitude of ways, not only with the assessment and treatment of mental health, but also by helping society understand mental processes and behaviour.
